The SCM is a national network of student collectives engaged in spirituality and progressive social justice issues.

In Victoria B.C., the SCM meets in nourishing community every week to share food, prayer and ideas.

We are passionate about spirit-filled social change and building a community where justice can flourish. Anyone can participate, regardless of background or beliefs. All our welcome at our table: SCM welcomes queer members and strives to organize from our anti-oppression covenant.

archbishop romero: 25 years, martyr for justice

* NOTE REVISED LOCATION: 1560 PEMBROKE! *
Thursday, March 24 :: Dinner: 7:30 pm :: Worship: 9-midnight

  • Icon by Robert Lenz,
http://www.bridgebuilding.com/narr/por.html Join us and others at Ekklesia House for a Holy Thursday passover seder (dinner) and vigil in memory of Oscar Romero, Archbishop of El Salvador - the hopes of liberation and justice.

    Romero was assassinated by US-trained militants in 1980, while celebrating mass. To this day - 25 years later - he is a hero to the Salvadorian people, and to people of faith working for peace and justice everywhere. Romero spoke fearlessly against the violence and greed engulfing his country in the 1970s. We will be commemorating his life and example on the anniversary of his death, on Holy Thursday. Stay tuned to find out more.
    • 7:30 pm : passover seder dinner (in memory of the Judeo-Christian liberation story)
    • 9 pm : worship / vigil to remember the martyrs and honour dreams of liberation
    • (optional): 7 pm : new documentary film about Romero (Camosun College, Young Bldg rm 216)

no one is illegal!

Rally: Sat, March 5 :: noon
@ Immigration Offices (816 government st)

  • This rally is to raise awareness that Canada detains so-called "terrorism" suspects without trial, charges or evidence, using post-911 "security certificates". Here is the SCM's position:
    The Student Christian Movement see the detention of humans through security certificates as a violation of dignity, fairness and human rights. Racial profiling and the war on 'terror' are unconsitutional. They are also unjust and immoral. We call for the right to a fair trial and an end to all forms of racism
